d h asked:
I live in Kansas and have called over 20 Walmart stores! They sell the 20 and 40 lb bag but We have mini dachshunds, aa 20 lb bag is just too big! I have a litter of dachshunds due today and I start off each new owner with their own 7 lb bag of what I feed them so that the puppies don’t stress when they go into their new homes.
Now if you are going to complain about me dreeding a dog or complaining about Iams you will be repoterd. I just would like someone to tell me if they have heard anything. And NO it has not been recalled, htat’s old news and I don’t want to hear that one either.
Sorry about the typo’s…

Becuase Walmart is the devil
You should fix your animals. I don’t care if you threaten me for being reported because I don’t give you an answer that you want. YOU are the one violating Y!A terms.
ADD - if they’re due today, you have 8 weeks to find the size bag of food that you want to give out. Shop around. Walmart isn’t the only store that sells dog food!
why dont you ask someone who works at the store? Maybe they will get some in for you
I wouldn’t ever feed my dogs iams.
There are a lot better quality foods out there with no junk fillers in them.
I am just concerned about your dog and I don’t want your dog to have any health problems.
They probably sell it in larger bags because people want more for their money. I like to buy things in bulk because then it last longer.
So, report me. Iams is the bottom of the barrel in dog food.
Why dont you ask walmart, how are we supposed to know.
You can feed your dog whatever you feel comfortable with, though I would never feed my dog Iams, it is just not a healthy dog food. But like I said, it is your dog and your decision. I would just ask a Wal-Mart associate, and see if it is possible for them to order the smaller bag, or go to walmart.com and see if they offer a smaller bag there. Anyway, good luck.
I would think that they don’t sell the 7lb bag because it’s not cost effective for the majority of their buyers. Buying dog food in bulk is much more cost effective for owners. Obviously your situation is unique which is why a mass retailer is less likely to be able to handle your request.
I think it’s great that you give a bag to new owners though as it is so important to minimize the shock to the puppies system when they get home.
Our Wal-mart has the small bags. I do not know their prices as I do not buy their dog food. You may want to talk to the manager to see if they can get it in for you. I know a lot of Wal-mart store are chainging things around and not getting other products in. You can check with PetCo or the like to see if they have the small bags. We have been to one PetCo will also give you samples of other puppy / dog foods that are a better quality if you ask.
When our pups go to their new homes they also get puppy food and a toy. I hate the idea of sending them off with out anything.
Have you thought about feeding them Chicken Soup brand food? They sell Chicken Soup brand at many farm supply stores, and as a fellow Kansan (grew up in northwestern Kansas), I know that there’s no shortage of farm-supply stores in the state.
The breeder I got my dog from (who breeds and shows champion dogs, and is also an agility judge) feeds Chicken Soup and Merrick brands.
Where to buy Chicken Soup:
You can compare the two and see if Chicken Soup is an acceptable substitute for you:

- Review of Iams puppy food (1/6 stars):
we use chicken soup and get the huge 35 lbs bags then when puppies go we just use a zip lock in load bag fill it up and then we do a print out of chicken soup so they know what is in it and how good it is for the dog along with a list of stores that sell the dog food in the city they live in
It’s a question of money making. They will not carry what they can’t sell. Buy the 20 lb bag. It’s dry food, won’t go bad and will last longer. Keep it in an airtight container. A little uptight are we? Wouldn’t buy a puppy from you.
Put the food in a zip lock bag or a nice container and give it to new owners. If I bought a puppy from you I would throw it out and change feed. My puppy was on that crap for three weeks at the breeders and she constantly had the runs. I threw out the food and gave her a high quality feed from the get go. Cured the runs right up.
Walmart is in business to make money.
They keep prices low by working on a small profit margin.
They have to sell what sells BEST and FASTEST.
You’re “barking up the wrong tree”… you need to call 1-800-walmart and talk to the corporate offices… Ask THEM! Your local stores have little to no control over what they carry.
Most people by in bulk because kibble stays good a long time. Your situation is different.
Check your local Tractor Supply, and your local pet store.
I understand why you want the small bags. It’s very nice that you give new owners a bag to start them off. Regardless of what others think of Iams, I suspect even they would agree that Iams is a much better start than Old Roy.
If you can’t find small bags at TSC or pet stores, then you could buy a bulk bag and re-bag your own. I don’t think this is your optimal solution, but it IS an option you could consider.
Try your local PetSmart, Petco, Target OR order online.
